Rolls-Royce has secured another pair of significant engine commitments, further strengthening its presence in the global wide-body aircraft market. Fresh agreements with Somon Air and Philippine Airlines will see the British aerospace manufacturer provide its latest-generation Trent engines for new Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reinforcing confidence in its flagship engine family.

Somon Air Selects Trent 1000 XE for Boeing 787 Fleet
Somon Air, the national carrier of Tajikistan, has chosen Rolls-Royce’s Trent 1000 XE engines to power two new Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Under the agreement, Rolls-Royce will supply four Trent 1000 XE engines, marking another important order for the newest and most capable version of the Trent 1000 family.
The decision supports Somon Air’s plans to expand and modernize its long-haul fleet while improving fuel efficiency and operational performance. The Boeing 787 has become one of the world’s most popular long-range aircraft, and the Trent 1000 XE has been specifically developed to deliver greater durability, reliability, and lower maintenance requirements.
The latest order follows another recent success for the engine manufacturer after LATAM Airlines committed to six Trent 1000 XE engines earlier this year. The agreement includes 18 Trent XWB-97 engines that will power nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft scheduled to join the airline’s fleet. In addition, the memorandum provides engine coverage for as many as five extra aircraft under Philippine Airlines’ existing purchase rights, giving the airline additional flexibility as future fleet requirements evolve.
The latest commitment builds upon the airline’s previous order announced in 2023, when Philippine Airlines selected nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines as part of its long-haul fleet renewal strategy.

Using operational data collected throughout each flight, engineers can monitor engine performance, identify emerging maintenance requirements before they become operational issues, and optimize maintenance scheduling.
This proactive approach helps airlines maximize fleet availability while reducing unexpected maintenance events and improving operational efficiency.
For Philippine Airlines, the programme is expected to provide greater cost predictability while supporting high dispatch reliability across its future Airbus A350-1000 fleet.
