Rocket Lab’s $8B Iridium Deal Reshapes Space Industry

Rocket Lab is making its boldest move yet in the commercial space sector, announcing plans to acquire satellite communications provider Iridium in a cash-and-stock transaction worth approximately US$8 billion. The acquisition represents a defining moment for both companies, creating a business that spans nearly every stage of the space economy—from designing and launching satellites to operating one of the world’s most established communications networks.

The agreement signals Rocket Lab’s ambition to become far more than a launch provider.
